Toys for One Year Olds

One-year-olds are ready to move staying busy and showing off new skills! 1-year-olds are walking and maybe climbing stairs! Books and being read to are popular at this age. One-year olds will learn to say new words and imitate sounds. They like to test their ability to climb and touch new things.

Suggested toys for 1-year-olds:

  • Board books with photos of real objects, textured books.

  •  Songs, rhymes, and finger play. 

  • Things to draw with.

  • Pretend to play with—play food, toy phones, dolls, and baby strollers. Stuffed toys, plastic animals, and vehicles. They may imitate environmental and animal sounds.

  • Wood blocks, smaller blocks, and shape sorters.

  • Things for using their hands and fingers puzzles, large pegboards, toys with dials, and twisting, knobs, lids. opening  and closing, cause and effect
